The quick version
At its “Pro and Tell” event in Los Angeles on 28 October 2026, Apple announced a redesigned MacBook Pro. It is the first Mac with a touchscreen and Apple’s first laptop with an OLED display. Many are calling it the biggest MacBook Pro change since Apple moved to its own chips in 2020.
The new screen
Apple calls the display PROLED XDR. It uses “tandem” OLED, two layers of OLED stacked for extra brightness, and Apple pitches it as a portable reference monitor for photographers and video editors.
- Up to 2,000 nits peak brightness
- Smooth refresh rate of up to 120Hz
- Contrast ratio Apple puts at 10,000,000:1
- Touch works together with the keyboard and trackpad
- A Dynamic Island replaces the notch at the top of the screen, with thinner borders around it
Lighter, with faster chips
Both sizes are lighter: the 14-inch model is about 1.4 kg (3 lb) and the 16-inch about 1.8 kg (4 lb). Inside are Apple’s M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, with up to 128GB of memory and up to 16TB of storage. Apple says battery life reaches up to 24 hours.
Prices and release date
- 14-inch, M5 Pro: $2,899 (Dh11,999 in the UAE)
- 16-inch, M5 Pro: $3,399 (Dh14,499)
- 14-inch, M5 Max: $4,499 (Dh19,299)
- 16-inch, M5 Max: $4,799 (Dh20,999)
Pre-orders opened on 28 October in 30 countries and regions, with deliveries and in-store availability from Friday, 6 November. Education pricing is available. Ahead of the launch, Bloomberg reported that the current mini-LED MacBook Pro models would stay on sale for now before being phased out.
What it means for you
If you edit photos or video, the brighter, higher-contrast screen is a real upgrade. For everyone else, the bigger story is touch: as more laptops get touchscreens, websites need buttons and menus that are easy to tap, not just click.
