The promise
An AI chat assistant can answer customer questions on your website at any hour, in English or Arabic, without anyone on your team having to be online. For a small business, that sounds like a dream: fewer repeated questions, faster answers and more enquiries captured, even at 2am.
What it does well
- Repeated questions: opening hours, prices, delivery areas, how to book.
- Finding things: pointing visitors to the right page or service.
- Capturing leads: collecting a name and WhatsApp number so you can follow up.
- Languages: answering in the visitor’s language.
Where it can go wrong
- Made-up answers: AI can confidently invent a price, a policy or a promise. It must only answer from information you give it.
- Privacy: chats may contain personal details. Make sure the provider handles data responsibly, tell visitors how their information is used, and follow Qatar’s personal data protection law.
- Frustration: nothing annoys customers more than being stuck with a bot. Always offer a clear way to reach a real person.
- Cost and upkeep: most tools charge monthly or per conversation, and the answers need updating when your business changes.
A good website assistant knows when to hand over to a human.
Is it worth it for you?
It is usually worth it if you get lots of repeated questions, you get enquiries outside working hours, and your information (services, prices, policies) is clear and written down. It is usually not worth it yet if you get a handful of messages a week, or most questions need a personal quote.
How to start small
- Write a simple FAQ first: it helps visitors and becomes the AI’s knowledge.
- Start with a tool that answers only from your own pages and FAQ.
- Add a “Talk to a person” button that opens WhatsApp.
- Read the chat logs every week and fix any wrong answers.
Many businesses find that a clear FAQ page and a WhatsApp button already solve most of the problem, and are a good first step before adding AI. You can see how ours works on the FAQ page.
